What basics do I need to have a website?

There are three basic website services you need, before you can start working with your web developer on your website. And, they must be purchased in this order.

  1. Domain Name
  2. Website Hosting
  3. SSL Certificate

Every website on the internet started with a domain name and website hosting. In today’s standards, every website should be secure (https), whether you are selling products online (eCommerce), or not. That is where the SSL certificate comes in.

Website Basics

Domain Name

This is the name of your site. In technical terms, your domain name is the URL, or address, of your site on the world wide web. Example: www.2cdevgroup.com

Website Hosting

Once you have your domain name, it is used to set up your website hosting. Your domain name is the name of your site folder on the hosting server.

SSL Certificate

As of 2015, Google is “encouraging all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.” In our book, building your site securely, using an SSL certificate, is a basic. It is affordable, smart, and easy.
